ONLINE BUSINESS VIDEO BREAKDOWN
I get a lot of questions about online videos. People know online video is exploding and they know they have to take part. What they are unsure of is the type of video to produce. Unfortunately, there is little on the topic on line and even video producers are often not very helpful. I built the graph below as a tool to help guide clients through the process.

TECHNOLOGY -- WHAT IS IT?
Another great talk from TED. I struggle with this idea constantly in this blog. What is Technology? What does it mean to us?

VIDEO TRAINING
Check out a look into the future of video training:

Using video to work with nurses in a hospital on efficiency isn't a new concept, but what I love about it is how the video is not used to spy on employees, but to show the employees what they do. It's the employees who then offer suggestions on how to be more efficient.

CLIENTS
I love clients, but some can be very challenging. This video was obviously made by someone you just came off a bad experience and I bet it's close to true.

5 DIGITAL TRENDS
According to Eric, who I met at MIXX, (http://twitter.com/telemachos) here are 5 digital trends I missed:
1. media reforestation - media is in a period of transition from analog to digital which means the economics are total different between the two
- take a broad view of the media ecosystem
-become a curator of content in niches
-rethink how media is measured and valued
2. satisfaction guaranteed - there are entire communities that have been developed to increase customer satisfaction
- audit the entire online experience
- build relationships with digital embassies
- be prepared to enage and act quickly
3. less is the new more - the increase in information scales but our time does not
- provide utility
- sow seeds with peers, grow plants with professionals
- shape the search shelf
4. corporate all-stars
- connect customers and all-stars
- give all-stars independence yet focus them
- equip and support them while actively listening
5. the power of pull
- create resources that inform the conversation
- adapt rather than invent
- write for searches, not just readers

Exitement increased for preroll web ads because of anticipation
87% of the time people's eyes are on the prerroll ad
A lot of talk about media meshing/converging. Using all media not just one.
There are really 19 million mobile Internet users in the US.
1in7 bits of media consumed on a mobile device
Is mobile the future. Will it surpass on line. With the ipone and blackberry mobile will outpace online and grow 60 in 2 years.

HILARIOUS CORPORATE VIDEO
Check out this brilliant video from one of my favorites, the Onion.
This is a fake video created for the website of a fictional chinese company that took over the Onion (a parallel for China rising in importance in the world).

ONLINE VIDEO IS HERE
Does anyone doubt the power of on line video? We at Key West Video http://www.keywestvideo.com/ have found that dvds orders are rare and almost everything have shifted online from approvals to the final deliverables. You can see the numbers below are staggering -- 12 billion videos watched. The chart also shows the power of google (which owns youtube). I have heard around town that while tv commercials took a big hit this year, interactive media continues to grow.
What does this all mean? Online video is no longer the future, but the present. And, just like with search engines you tube and google can not be ignored.

MAD MEN
My favourite show is the AMC Classic Mad Men. The beauty of the show is that it subtle. You have to pay attention and it rewards you with wonderful, harsh and true moments. Can corporates every achieve this goal? Perhaps not, but I certainly will try.

I'm sure there will be more on this later.

Jim Cramer thinks so...
I have yet to have a request yet, but I need to be ready...

STILL CAMERAS WITH VIDEO
There is a rash of new still cameras that capture video hitting the market. I often get asks if they will work for corporates. Here is a rundown of the canon D7:
Sample:
http://www.vimeo.com/6487566
Positives:
Lenses -- great for soft focus interviews
Image quality
Price -- body is around $1800
Negatives --
Not good for motion -- the image capture device will have trouble with fast motion
Audio - Lack of XLR imputs
Handling - video cameras are built a certain way. They are build to be steady and functional. It would be a nightmare to shoot an event handheld with this camera.
Maybe one day... I'll keep my eye on them.

WHY THIS BLOG?
Corporate video is often a seen side show for students, filmmakers, and advertisers. This blog is for those of us who are truly interested in this specific medium. My goal is to provide interesting thoughts, tidbits and ideas to others like me, and to answer questions from those who are less knowledgeable.
